a variety of supportive services and educational programs for people of
all ages through Community Services.
Our
programs have a common goal: helping residents become active,
functioning members of their communities.

Provides
training and job opportunities for the mentally retarded (MR) through
the following programs: |
|
Chocolate Factory
- an Agency-run, community-based business,
Highland Chocolates
provides employment opportunities for MH and MR clients.
Job Coaching
- places clients in a real work setting that pays at least minimum
wage.Clients receive intensive, on-the-job training, working closely
with a job coach. Several Tioga County businesses participate in the
program.

Recruits
volunteers who donate their time and expertise to supplement existing
Agency programs. Volunteer opportunities include sharing skills in
parenting, being a friend of youth, and serving as a volunteer driver, a
child care worker or an administrative aide.

Adventure Challenge Experience: |
|
Rigorous
outdoor activities, educational workshops and group activities for
youth. Outreach programs help youth to build self-esteem and physical
coordination, develop leadership and decision-making skills, and provide
a healthy alternative to delinquency and drugs. Self-referrals are
encouraged. Referrals are also accepted from case managers, schools,
physicians or counselors.

A
19-station maze of cables, logs, platforms and ropes that offers
individuals of all ages a mental and physical challenge, as well as a
chance to build self-esteem, reduce stress and develop a cooperative,
supportive attitude. The course is also available for community groups
and businesses for a fee. |

Wilderness Experience Program: |
|
Offers
challenging, adventure activities such as backpacking, whitewater
canoeing, rock-climbing and mountain biking for youth ages 11-18. During
the summer-long program, groups of youth rotate among the various
activities over four-week periods. The program helps youth learn
teamwork and improve self-esteem.

National Youth Project Using Minibikes (NYPUM): |
|
A
private, non-profit program designed for youth ages 10 - 15, NYPUM
operates after school and summers nationwide.
NYPUM participants who
live up to the terms of a behavioral contract earn the privilege of
riding a minibike at the program site. TCHSA is the official east coast
training and distribution center for the national NYPUM program. |
